I feel like that's part of the game. Identifying a good waiver pickup. Shouldn't we award owners that find and take a chance on these players?

This has been a subject of great debate.

While I agree with you that finding these "diamonds in the rough" is part of being a great GM, I can't help but argue that the waiver wire order determines the outcome of these diamonds more than anything.

Take for exampe O'dell Beckham Jr. this year. When he started going off, everyone wanted him! However, only the lowest of the low could claim him as they had waiver priority. That team was able to make use of Beckham this past season, and that's the first perk.

The 2nd perk is that he will be treated as a RFA. So at the end of the day, the GM has the opportunity to match any offer and retain him for another year.

Lastly, having it set up this way ensures that FA's that vault into stardom get their market value as soon as possible.

Hopefully that makes some sense!
