These values have in fact changed from the numbers that were provided at the start of the league. The small changes have occurred for multiple reasons, with the main reasons being...

A - the lack of a 10yr cap threw all the economics off
B - perceived concern that picks 1-3 were unsignable long-term options
C - extremely overvalued price of picks below 7
D - draftees accounted for a maximum of 25% of the cap, which was much too high

These values should be beneficial to all GMs, but it should be noted that the economics behind this league is currently only guesswork and speculation.  So be forewarned that some of these values, and possibly even the overall cap will be adjusted in the years to come.

Draftee value

Post by Migs on Thu May 07, 2015 2:05 pm

Some further explanation on the reduction of Rookie contracts from $75 -> $30...

1. This price point puts our league more in line with an actual NFL team as rookie cap is typically 5-10%. When we were at $75, we were closer to 25%.

2. Based on the average 1st yr contract being around 700, and this league ideally wanting teams to have ~5 signees every year, that gets us to $3,500 (contracts) + 360 (12 picks) = 3,860.

It should also be noted that, based on last year's activity, a team will do roughly 20 waiver transactions during the year (net effect -50 each time) = 1,000.

If you combine those two -- 3,860 + 1,000 = 4,860. This means, prior to the start of the auction you have $140 available in cap space before you start to get taxed! While this in itself is not enough to sign a single player, you can adjust your waiver transactions to build a little more space if you are concerned about going over the $5,000 soft cap.

Hope this helps!
